Love

Friday's Inspiration was about love!

Love! Don't you just love -Love!

I do - there is no better feeling than to be in love, to feel loved, to love someone!

All you need is love! - John Lennon

Love makes the world go round! - Bob Merrill

Love is a choice you make from moment to moment - Barbara De Angeles

Love is patient, love is kind.It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking. It is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Love never fails. - I Corinthians 13:4-8

Where love rules, there is no will to power; and where power predominates, there love is lacking. The one is the shadow of the other. - Carl Jung

The love we give away is the only love we keep. - Elbart Hubbard

Whoso loves, believes the impossible. - Elizabeth Barrett Browning

We need not think alike to love alike. - Francis David

"The subject tonight is Love
And for tomorrow night as well,
As a matter of fact
I know of no better topic
For us to discuss

An Old Friend's Inspiration

I have had the good fortune of being reunited with an old high school friend over the last year. As many people do, we lost touch a couple of years after high school. We took different paths in life....he went to University, I started working full time. While we still lived in the same city, we hung out a different places....had different friend groups etc. etc. He got married...I stayed single...he moved away...I flew the friendly skies.

Years went by and I wondered what he was doing, where he was, if he and his lovely wife had started a family. Thanks to the wonderful technology of the Internet and a little thing called Facebook...we reconnected. It is so awesome having him back in my life and we have picked up our friendship where we left off.

He has recently been reading my blog and sent me an email about Mindfulness and something he uses to keep himself and others in the moment - I thought I would use it as today's inspiration (my yoga instructor's inspiration was good but targeted at meditation and didn't seem appropriate for my needs). My friend's inspiration, however, was perfectly timed, insightful and a provides a wonderful visualization of how to "see" mindfulness.

Thank you my friend - you are a pleasure to know!

Thursday's Inspiration - Day 16

"Mindfulness:

Our life is like a fast flowing river and we are standing in this river...the future are the objects in the water flowing/coming toward us. Things that have passed by us, are the past. We have no power to control the objects that have passed by us and no power to influence the objects upstream flowing toward us. We can only control the things within reach right now. Once they pass, they are gone from our influence. Mindfulness is staying in the present and focusing on what we are doing now."

Obstacles

Today's inspiration is about obstacle's in yoga...but this can pertain to every aspect of life.

Our adoption journey is very much like an obstacle race! We had to jump many "hurdles" to get to this point and have many more in the coming months.

From the time you start this process you are on the paper chase....getting a home study done and approved....collecting all the items for the dossier that basically is you and your spouse's life in a nutshell...getting the police checks, medical checks etc. etc.

Then it is the obstacle of making sure the documents you have so carefully prepared get to your chosen agency and from there to Foreign Affairs and the Ethiopian Embassy. Canada Post can be a big obstacle as it has been proven when they lost a good friend's documents.

An even bigger obstacle is watching your precious cargo fly to Ethiopia via Fed Ex. Once you see that all your blood, sweat and tears have reached your child's country of birth, you are faced with the biggest obstacle of all....letting go of all control. You now feel as though you have no power. What you need now is pure faith, love and belief that your dream of having a family will come true. You leave your future in the hands of others...in the hands of God or the Universe depending on your beliefs.

I am starting to understand thru my adoption obstacle's that I am strong. Stronger than I ever imagined. I am starting to learn and exercise true patience in this process...something I have never had before.

I have never been good at letting people know when I am sad or upset...I have always been the one who listened. I have learned thru this adventure that it is o.k. to let others know I need their support. I can ask for help or advice and there will be someone to lend me a hand when I need it.

I think I can make it thru this obstacle course called adoption and I might even come out a wee bit stronger for it in the end!!

Tuesday's Inspiration - Day 15

"Remember, yoga practice is like an obstacle race: Many obstructions are purposely put in the way for us to pass through. They are there to make us understand and express our own capacities.

WE DID IT!!!

Yvan and I ran in the Saskatchewan Marathon this past weekend. Last fall I coerced Yvan into taking a "Learn to Run 10K" clinic with Brainsport. Little did I know that Yvan would find a new passion - running!

After we did the clinic and ran our fun run in November, Yvan decided to train for a half marathon. I was going to join him on this adventure but my 10K run had not been what I had hoped for and so decided that I had better conquer the 10K before moving on to running twice the distance...that's right twice the distance.

Yvan took a clinic with Brainsport which started at the end of February and I followed my training clinic from the fall.

We both set goals for this race:

Yvan's goal - run the half marathon (21.1K) in under 2 hours

Rana's goal - run the entire 10K route without stopping not worrying about a time goal.

SUCCESS!!!!

Yvan runs the half marathon in - 1 hour 58 minutes and 50 seconds

Rana runs the 10k - without stopping in 1 hour 3 minutes and 7 seconds

- please note that I had to pee from the time I started until I finished - I was not stopping to use the washroom- no way! no how!!!

I couldn't be prouder of the two of us!!!! It was so awesome to hear your name being announced as you came up to the finishing line and to cross it knowing you had accomplished your goal!!!!!!

This year was the 30th Anniversary of the Saskatchewan Marathon and 2100 people participated....the most ever!!!

The cheering from the crowd along the route was so inspiring and definitely made the run even more worthwhile!

I will post pictures once we have our official race finish photos!

We can't wait to do it again next year!!

Monday's Inspiration - Day 14

"Don't die with your music still inside of you." - Wayne Dyer

We're happy when we're listening to good music, for the essence of our True Nature IS good music...good vibration...happiness...joy.

Why not tune your instrument - your body, your mind - on a daily basis with practices that align with your heart so that the song that is YOURS to belt out on this Earth uplifts the lives of those around you. We've all got a top-of-the-charts hit single inside waiting to be released!"

Sunday's Inspiration

Sunday's Inspiration - Day 13

Q: "How do i live in this world and enjoy
it's delights, but be devoted to spirit?"

A: from Ketut [medicine man in Bali]

He showed me a sketch. An androgynous human figure, standing up, hands clasped in prayer.
But, this figure had 4 legs, and no head. Where the head should be, there was only a wild foliage of ferns and flowers. There was a small, smiling face drawn over the heart.

"To find the balance you want, this is what you must become. You must keep your feet grounded so firmly on earth that it's like you have four legs, instead of two. That way, you can stay in the world. But you must stop looking at the world through your head.
You must look through your heart instead. That way you will know spirit."

More Inspiration (a little late)

It has been a busy weekend! Will post more about that later...

Friday's Inspiration - Day 11

One of the great remedies for conquering our fear
is to face boldly what one fears.
Put face to face with the danger you fear
and you fear it no longer...it disappears.

Saturday's Inspiration - Day 12

Introducing Grissom - Fur Baby #4

So, we decided to get another dog. Actually, we weren't even looking but Danielle (sis-in-law) decided she might get herself a dog and found him. He was called Grizzly at that time....Danielle decided to wait on the dog idea for a while and showed us his picture. Yvan was smitten immediately.

We thought it might be a good idea for Leroy to have a buddy and get used to not being the "baby" anymore (he will always be my baby). So, we phoned up the owner and took Leroy for a little visit. We were told he was kennel trained and house broken and that he was very good dog.
We thought about it for the night and decided to get him. We quickly switched his name to Grissom (yes, after the CSI guy) because it was close to his original name.

We picked him last Friday night and the poor little guy was so scared. He peed all over the house which is not cool but we believe now it is because he was scared..he has since been excellent and letting us know when he needs to go outside. He hates the kennel -in fact on Sunday night we put him the kennel for 2 hours while we went out and he rammed his little head against the kennel door enough times that he moved the kennel 4 feet across the room....he has some anxiety issues to say the least!

Today he is at the vet getting the old snip-a-roo! The vet already called and said he did really well and we are picking him up shortly.

These are Grissom's photos from the ad on Kijiji....who could resist?

Grissom meeting the cats. Yes, I know! Suki and Sam are big cats (about 18lbs each) aside from Suki's diabetes and need for insulin twice a day they are healthy and happy. Griss, however, is probably thinking "WTF? Those cats are huge!". He loves them and they are starting to love him too....Sam will now have a new cuddle buddy (she loves to cuddle - right Rhonda!)

Bath time for the boys! Grissom was pretty stinky so he needed a bath - Leroy needed one too so into the tub they both went.

All, in all he is starting to settle in. I think he realizes that we are going to take care of him...he is not so scared with us and loves to cuddle! He loves Leroy and pretty much whatever Leroy does Grissom follows. This is awesome because Leroy is a really, really, really good dog and if Grissom picks up Leroys habits that is o.k. by us.
Welcome Fur Baby Grissom!!!

Thursday's Inspiration - Day 10

"... the only time you ever have in which to learn anything or see anything or feel anything, or express any feeling or emotion, or respond to an event, or grow, or heal, is this moment, because this is the only moment any of us ever gets. You’re only here now; you’re only alive in this moment."

Mindfulness

Today's Inspiration comes at a time when I am needing it most. Mindfulness is something I have struggled with all my life. I am always planning for the future (the next trip, the next outing, the next, the next, the next...) and not living in the now.

We are taught to plan, make goals, prepare for the future from the time we are born. As young children we are asked, "What do you want to be when you grow up?" As teens we are pressured into thinking about what we will take in college. I had a hard time imaging what I was going to be doing for lunch most days.

When we get out of school we are asked "When will you get a job?". Once we get a job the question changes to "When are you going to get a girlfriend or boyfriend?", "Have you started saving for retirement?", "Are you going to buy a house?". After we have found the a person to share our life with people start in on "When you getting married?" Almost the same day as you get married people want to know "When are you starting a family?" and once you start a family "When are you having another baby?"

I could go on and on. All are fair questions -but what about just allowing people the time to enjoy the now - the moment! Let kids play with abandon and not worry about tomorrow..that day will come. Wouldn't it be nice to enjoy the new job, the new relationship, the new baby for a while?

There were times when it is just nice to wallow in this moment. To be present! How many times do you find yourself talking to someone and zoning out because you are thinking about what is to come? I do it all the time...I don't mean to do it but I do.

I am learning slowly to enjoy my time with people at this moment because I won't ever have this moment back.

With the adoption I am living 8, 10, 12 months in the future, quite often dreaming of the day we get a referral, what it will be like to travel and what meeting our future child will be like.

I am forgetting about all the good things I have in front of me right now. My wonderful partner in crime, Yvan, our family, our friends. Once our baby comes to us, we won't ever be able to get these moments back of being "just the two of us" ever again.

So, this day's intention is one I need and will keep in front of me to always remind myself to be Mindful!

Wednesday's Inspiration - Day 9

"Mindfulness,

Mindfulness involves bringing one's awareness to the present moment.

By residing more frequently in the present moment, people begin to see the true reality

of what is happening. One sees that the mind is continually chattering with commentary

or judgement. By noticing that the mind is continually making commentary, one has the ability

to carefully notice thoughts seeing them them for what they are without aversion or judgement.

One is free to release a thought (let it go) when we realize that the thought may not be the present moment.

Mindfulness is an activity that can be done at any time.

Bring the mind to focus on what ever is happening in the present moment."

Inspirations for Day 7 and Day 8

In order to catch up from the longweekend I am going to post yesterday and today's inspiration at the same time.

Please remember that these inspirations are not my own - they are sent to me daily during the "40 Days of Change" from my yoga instructor.

Monday's Inspiration - Day 7

"The following is an excerpt from the book "Realities of the Dreaming Mind", written by another of my teachers -Swami Sivananda Radha.

"Are we living in one world - the world in which we walk with our feet? Or do we live in another world - a world of thought and dream? Which is real? When does life become a reality and when is it just another dream? Who are you? Why are you here? Where do you come from? Where do you think you will go?

By relecting and working on your dreams you will find answers to these questions. The objective of the yogic approach to dreams is to contact the Divine within - what the Eastern teachings call the Guru within or the Higher Self and what Jesus and the Christian traditions refer to as the "kingdom of God within".

Our dreams are our own creations, and as we study them we learn our personal language of the unconscious. By finding answers within, we gain self-confidence."

Your dreams are how your unconscious speaks, saying "Look, I'm here...please listen." Dreams can be perceived as our inner wisdom guiding us, but its up to us to listen, observe and reflect...to interpret. The unconscious will reveal your potential, but its up to you to follow through and apply the guidance.

Are your dreams trying to get your attention? Do you wish you could remember your dreams? If you answered "yes", perhaps set the intention - before you go to bed is a good time - to recall your dreams for the purpose of guidance and see where they lead you."

Tuesday's Inspiration - Day 8

"Good morn or evening friends
Here's your friendly announcer
I have serious news to pass on to every-body
What I'm about to say
Could mean the world's disaster
Could change your joy and laughter to tears and pain

It's that
Love's in need of love today
Don't delay
Send yours in right away
Hate's goin' round
Breaking many hearts
Stop it please
Before it's gone too far

love's in need
of love today
don't delay
right away
Just give the world LOVE.

"Love's In Need Of Love Today" Stevie Wonder"

Rockabye Baby!

I happened to be browsing Amazon today for books - any kind of books! I love books and reading and am always looking for something new to read.

So, I happened to be looking at specific book on health and wellness when I saw this on the same page. Yvan and I are HUGE U2 fans. I saw them on the Elevation Tour in 2001. Then Yvan and I went to the Vertigo Tour in 2005. They are one of the best bands to see in concert (I am definitely biased) and would see them many times over. We are going to order this album to get our little tyke to sleep at night to the wonderful strains of U2 lullabies!! Hee Hee!!

The Rockabye Baby idea encompasses musical acts of all kinds - Bob Marley, Led Zeppelin, The Beatles, The Cure, Green Day etc. etc.

If you want to get your own Rockabye Baby album from your favourite band click here and search for Rockabye Baby.

Then I found this too (see below). What a great concept!!! I will definitely being ordering this album. I feel people give U2 and specifically Bono a hard time for the work he does. Many people say he is using his fame for his own good, to promote himself - Really? Would he honestly do the work he does for Africa and other countries only to benefit himself in the end? I don't think so, I say he has and does more with this fame than many people. At least he isn't trying to get on the latest cover of People or another celeb mag by getting drunk, or married, or arrested etc. etc. I take my hat off to Bono and the boys of U2 and all other celebs who use their fame to bring attention to the plight of people in need all over the world instead being self-involved and just trying to be famous.
Amazon Says:
"The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 features brand-new covers of classic U2 songs by Grammy Award-winning and up-and-coming African artists including Angelique Kidjo, Les Nubians, Sierra Leone's Refugee All Stars, Vieux Farka Touré, Vusi Mahlasela and the Soweto Gospel Choir.

The album was inspired by Bono's direct philanthropic impact via the launch of the ONE campaign and (RED), and his poignant outspoken public commentary on the immediate financial needs facing Africa.

In The Name Of Love: Africa Celebrates U2 is a revolutionary tribute to one of the world's best-loved bands. Deluxe packaging includes detailed info on the home countries of the artists, and info on nonprofit organizations that are making a difference."

Day 6 - Sunday's Inspiration

Sunday's Inspiration - Day 6

"The teachings of love and compassion form the foundation of all the world religions. And as Jewel says "In the end, only kindness matters."

On this note, regardless what our daily practices look like...do they lead us to a more compassionate lifestyle?

And to quote Dona Hollman, Senior Iyengar Teacher, "One thing I have learned is that without love and compassion, any practice - yogic or otherwise - is a practice in vain isolation."

A suggestion for reflection...ask yourself "Have I cared for someone today?"

Happy May Long Weekend!!!!

HAPPY MAY LONG WEEKEND EVERYONE!

If you are driving to the lake, another city or another province please drive safely :)

Lots of love Ranavan

Friday's Inspiration

"Inspired by the teachings of Shakti Gawain, today's words remind us one true fact that we can always count on is that we - and that which we perceive around and within us - is in a constant state of change.

Whenever I "feel" stuck in a certain mindset, emotion or relationship,even....the mantra "This too shall pass" wakes me back up...encouraging me take hold of the reigns and steer my life in the direction I choose. Our thoughts and intentions are more powerful than we often give them credit. Once we're "on to ourselves" and our patterned way of behaving or thinking, we can ease of the gas pedal and really start "driving our cars"....then the ride of Life gets really fun, hopeful and interesting!! Whhheeeeee!!

I am
exploring,
discovering,
and changing.

I invite you to repeat these words today, when you have moments of quietness. We often discover ways in which we have holding ourselves back, allowing our fears and negative concepts to block ourselves from achieving satisfaction and fulfillment in life. The process of change may occur on a level through mer positive thinking. It also involves exploring, discovering, and changing our deepest, most basic attitudes toward life.

-Shakti Gawain

You've set a clear intention, most likely with your heart vs. your head....so - relax and enjoy the ride!"

Nice Padded Room

Yesterday marked 6 months of waiting for a referral!

I know that we probably have another 6 months or so left to go, but it sure feels good to have those months behind us. I know the next few months are likely to be harder than the first, but I am trying everything in my power to remain positive and upbeat. I have to! If I don't - Yvan has threatened to have a room made up in our house with nice padding and I will get to wear a stylish white jacket that ties in the back....

So, here is a to another six months - if anyone needs to join me in the funny room you are all more than welcome - we will definitely have happy hour :)

Thursday's Inspiration

Two great humans - Mahatma Gandhi & Michael Jordan - both on very different playing fields offer us some advice today...some words of wisdom that lend to inspire us. And with both of these unique and precious men, we KNOW that they speak from EXPERIENCE. They truly walked their talk....or in Michael's case....not past tense :)!

Top 10 Tips from Gandhi:

Change yourself.
You are in control.
Forgive and let it go.
Without action you aren't going anywhere.
Take care of this moment.
Be congruent.
Be authentic.
Be your true self.
Continue to grow and evolve.

Words from Michael Jordan:

"I always wanted to know where I fit in with the best.
AUTHENTICITY is about being true to who you are, even when everyone else wants you to be someone else.

That doesn't mean you don't have to play fair or conduct yourself in a respectful manner. But it's a lot harder to become the best you can be when you're focused on trying to be the best version of someone else. There's nothing authentic in that, and if it's not authentic, then it's not going to last."

So...be your unique and precious snowflake of a Self - your life [your practice, your meditation, your art, your way of being in relationships] will look completely different than everyone else's...and so it "should"!

40 Days of Change

What is 40 days of change you ask? Well, I will tell you. 40 Days of Change is about making a change. A change in you, to aspects of your life, to your community or to the world.

I partake in yoga on the odd occasion which means I buy passes to go to yoga classes thru out the year and I try to make it as much as possible. I am not an astute practicing yogini but would like to be one day. There are many times when the call of my couch is much stronger than the call of the mat.

I receive emails from my yoga instructor frequently and she has recently set up a "40 Days of Change" for the yoga community here in town. She is offering free yoga classes for 40 days (Tuesday to Friday) which is so amazing but they are at 6:15a.m. which is not so amazing. I am not a 6 a.m. early riser at all! (I know that will change when the wee one is home) So, I am not partaking in these classes.

However, I am going to participate in the "40 Days of Change" in my own way. I feel I need to channel this adoption energy inside me to a place of positivity...I find that I am wallowing in the negative aspects of the adoption a bit too much and it isn't good for me, my husband, my family, or my friends.

She has asked people to set an intention for the next 40 days. Here is her guidance on how to set an intention:

"Your intention is yours. YOU decide what you will commit to each day. It may be about swimming, or Tai Chi or gardening for you. It may be about being kind to the beings in your life, cultivating gratitude or growing your meditation practice.

Please let this sink in....I am not going to tell you what to do, nor is your 40 days going to look like everyone else's. Intentions come in all shapes and sizes :).

So...set an intention for the next 40 days that is SIMPLE and DO-ABLE. SIMPLE....SIMPLE....SIMPLE. [i.e. I will roll out my mat and do 1 asana/pose every day; I will smile more often; I will walk more; I will eat something green every day].

Setting an intention is a way to align and connect with what is important to you RIGHT NOW. It is a personal agreement that puts an energetic focus on your vision of your life. It is also about action, since it actively directs your attention.

My suggestion for setting your intention:

Grab a journal, a pen and a quiet moment. Light a candle. Celebrate in your heart your willingness to participate. Ask yourself the following 4 questions:

1. What is it I wish to enhance?
2. Is there anything I want to let go of?
3. Is there something I yearn to discover...uncover?
4. What is it I'd like to manifest?

Once you've set your intention, acknowledge it and let it go. Drop it into your unconscious and go about living. Relax and be receptive to the magic...create space for the new to enter...accept and celebrate who you already are, creatively stepping into your vision.

One last suggestion: Choose a buddy you can share your intention with, then keep it close and seek your own inner counsel first. Be aware of your intention, but don't try to "WORK" on it!
Trust yourself, trust your intention....trust the process."

I am going to share my intention with you all - I will walk my dog every day and enjoy living in the moment.

Please feel free to join me in this if you like - you can do it quietly on your own or you can tell me via blogging how it is going. You can just watch as I do mine too...that is o.k.

My yoga instructor is sending us inspirational guidance every day during this practice...I will be sure to post these every day - even if that is all the I post on a given day.

This started yesterday so I will post the two she has sent us:

Tuesday

"Up! Up! The sun is getting up.
The sun gets up. So UP with you!
Up! Up! Up! Great day for up!
Wake every person, pig and pup.
Till EVERYONE on Earth is Up!"
Today is your day, your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.

-Dr Seuss

Wednesday

Before I scurry into the details of this day,
let me touch that web of timeless peace
and drape it gentle on my shoulders.
Let me gaze from the leaded window
and watch light dance upon the apple tree,
and swell with tears of gratitude
for the miracle of life.

Much love from me to you!

A Laugh At My Expense

Saturday was a lazy, lazy, lazy day. I mean lazy! Yvan was sick with a cold all last week so he slept most of the day Saturday. I stayed in my p.j.'s watching movies etc. until about 3 p.m.

Yvan had been bugging me to make our favourite whole wheat chocolate chip cookies - don't scoff -they are delicious and you would never, ever know they were whole wheat.

Anyways, at about 3p.m. I decided to shower and go to the grocery store. So, after I showered and had dried my hair I declared it a "No Make-up Day" with the exception of a little under eye make-up - cover up the dark circles and bags ya know! No make-up day isn't hard because I only wear mascara and blush!

My sister-in-law called and asked if I wanted to go with a walk with her and her dogs and since Leroy was in need of a walk I figured why not.

So, off we went for a walk! After the walk, I figured I better get to the grocery store and get the goodies needed for the cookies.

I hopped into the car and off I went to the local Sobey's. I wandered around the store taking my time, smiling at people, etc. - I love grocery shopping! Now I am a regular at this Sobey's and while I am not on a first name basis with the cashiers - I recognize them and vice versa. There is one lady in particular that I often try to get in her line-up because she is friendly and efficient.

This day I was lucky - she was working and didn't have anyone at her till. So, we went thru our routine of chatting etc while the groceries were being rang thru. She asked my if I wanted to buy a reusable shopping bag - "why yes of course I do", I said. "What color would you like?" she asked in return...we had a lengthy discussion (time permitting of course) on the switch from plastic to reusable and plastic vs. reusable vs. paper. We discussed how much you could fit in the bag etc, etc. We had a face-to-face conversation - with only the counter between us. (You will understand the significance of this in a moment.)

When I got home with groceries, Yvan got up and was sitting on the other side of the island from me as I was unpacking the food stuff. Here is our conversation:

Yvan - "you didn't go out like that did you"

Me (offended) - "um, ya, why?"

Yvan (cheekily) - "no, seriously! you didn't go out like that right"

Me (a little peeved)- "of course I did - there is nothing wrong with how I look today"

Yvan (laughing) - "you went out with that stuff under your eyes like that?" " those make-up dots?"

Me (mortified) - "what make-up dots!!!???"

Yvan (roaring) - "the ones under your eyes, you know, two under each eye."

Me (groaning) - "ooooooh noooooo", "oh no, I did, I totally did!" "I went for a walk with Danielle and then went to Sobey's." "no wonder all those people where giving me funny smiles in the grocery store" "Why didn't someone say something or motion or something."

Yvan and I laughed and laughed. I mean I couldn't even be embarrassed about it. To be fair to Danielle, I had my sunglasses on while we were walking so she wouldn't have seen it. But the cashier lady - I mean come on - she could have said something - we have a relationship ya know - a common love of groceries - not to mention that you should always look out for a sister friend!

So, in order for all to have a laugh at my expense!! Here are a couple of re-enactment snaps of me with the dreaded under eye make-up!

I am seriously losing my mind, this adoption has me losing my mind!!!
Happy Monday :)

Giraffe's and Girls Night Out

This week seemed to take forever!!

Honestly, the time has been flying by as of late, but this week seemed like it was never going to end.

When we were in Whistler, one of the sponsors of breakfast on the Sunday left these on everyone's chair. When the door to the room was opened for us to go in I almost lost my mind. "GIRAFFES " I squeaked - Yvan went beet red - "IT MUST BE KARMA OR A SIGN" I screeched - ya know, Giraffe's - Africa - adoption - anyways!!! Since not a lot of people went to the breakfast there were quite a few left over. Like the mad woman that I am, I scooped up as many as my little arms could carry and beat it outta there like a thief in the night. The looks I got as I ran to the elevators to take my loot to our hotel room was priceless...I actually think I might have set off a stampede because Yvan said the ladies started like pouncing like lions after I left for the rest of unclaimed prizes. Hee Hee - wished I had stuck around long enough to see it but I wasn't risking it! :)

So, Yvan and I decided we had found the theme to our baby's room - eeeeeee! Then on Saturday we came home to find our very close friends, Chad and Lori, sitting on our front step with this!

I think she is looking for her babies from Whistler!

She was adamant about getting in and once in she wasn't going to let us in no way! no how!

Chad even asked nicely!

She finally relented and even posed for a few pictures with us!

Yup - I definitely think we have a giraffe theme going!

Last night was girl's night out!

There is nothing like getting together with the girls to talk adoption....I am sure all the people around us were amazed at our little group...we talked a lot...sometimes one at a time...sometimes all at once and sometimes in groups of 2 or 3. It is so great to spend time with others who like to talk the talk and as Sandi says "don't get the glazed over eyes". Did I mention the dessert...no...well...let me tell you - there was apple crisp, New York style cheese cake, mint cheesecake, turtle cheesecake, chocolate carrot cake (thanks for sharing Cheryl), peanut butter pie and chocolate cake - Sandi's infamous dessert was about half the size of ours....it really should have been a more generous slice Sandi!! ;)

As always, I was wound up after our night out - thoughts of travel to Ethiopia, what to pack, hotels to stay in, and which sights to see whirred thru my mind. Not to mention that I was extremely itchy after I got home from all the talk about lice, scabies, Giardia and Tinea Capitis but I learned A LOT! Thanks ladies - next night out is in June right?

So, guess what I did when I got home ? - curled up on the couch to watch T.V.that's what. And guess what was on? You've Got Mail with Meg Ryan - bang!!! out like a light!

Will 6 Words Suffice

I have been tagged by CinnamonOpus - if you don't already read her blog you should. Her posts are always witty, thought-provoking, entertaining, funny, and extremely well written...not a day goes by that I don't drop in to see what is happening in the life of Cinnamon.

Well, Cin has gone and tagged me with the job of describing myself in 6 words...will 6 words suffice to describe what is best known as me...I jest...I suppose their are people who could do it in one word :0 This challenge has left me in a bit of a pickle but I will do my best - here goes:

Looking at future, living for today.

I am planning for the future...but reminding myself constantly to be in the moment.

Basically, the idea is to sum yourself up in six words or less, post it, and then tag someone else:

Write your own six word memoir.
Post it on your blog.
Link to the person that tagged you in your post, and to this original post if possible.
Tag five more blogs with links.

I think I will tag:

Rhonda, Julie, Dianne, Shelley, and Sandi

Have fun!

African Children's Choir

Sunday night we had the immense please of attending the African Children's Choir at Elim Tabernacle. We met up with some fellow adoptive families for supper at Fuddrucker's before hand - oh no we forgot to take photos!

Cheryl, Clay, Jordyn, Rachelle, Adrian, Dan and Shannon ,Gerard and Yvonne (Yvan's parents)and us all chowed on some excellent burgers!

We wanted to be sure we got to the church early so we could get excellent seats. We were pretty much the first people there with a few exceptions. We managed to get the first 3 rows for seating. We saved the front row for Rhonda and Kristin and their momma's. If you look closely you will see Rhonda and Kristin's heads in my photos - hee hee!

(You can see more photos over at Rhonda and Shannon's blogs too)

The choir was amazing and those kids were loving every moment. They had so much energy it was hard not to be dancing in your seats with them.

The Choir with their Director (seated)

During a portion of the show the children introduced themselves and told us how old they were and where they were from. They also told us what they wanted to be when they grew up. The responses were varied from teachers, to pilots, to engineers and accountants, to business owners and dancers. There was even a little guy who wanted to be a president and sweet little girl who wanted to be an astronaut.

Many of these children come from extreme poverty and have lost one or both of their parents. They have been given the gift of life and opportunity thru the choir. It occurred to me as these children were telling us their brief story, that there are millions of children who won't have these opportunities. There are children who will end up living on the street, unable to attend school, be without a home, are unable to feed themselves or worse will end up dying alone not having anyone to love them. It broke my heart! No child should be alone, no child should ever have to fend for themselves, and not have the love and guidance of a parent. I know in a perfect world this wouldn't happen but we don't live in a perfect world.

It is up to each and every one of us to ensure the children of the world are taken care of...they are our future....we can in the words of Bono "End Poverty in our Lifetime".

We can make a difference, I can make a difference, you can make a difference!!! I challenge everyone I know - to find your way to make a difference!

Happiness on Friday!

There are some people who need a little cheering up! These fantastic people have been waiting way to long for a referral and are feeling down. These gals have also been a great source of support for me when I am feeling blue.

I don't always have the right words to make them feel better - so I thought I would post some random items that might bring Happiness on Friday - if even just for a moment!
