I feel your pain! I missed my William's first birthday last February (referral in August), and it broke my heart. I finally brought him home in July, and while we couldn't celebrate any actual "firsts" together, we're celebrating everything as firsts now. His 2nd birthday is coming up in 2 weeks, and it will be all the more special because we're finally together. Hang in there; you will never forget the pain of missing these milestones, but that will make your firsts together all the sweeter when you do bring wee Ade home.

Happy Birthday sweet baby Ade!! AND you are so right Rana, that life doesn't always unfold the way we want it to. It's a real tough pill to swallow sometimes.....
I so wish this had gone differently for you and for Ade. There have been a few times over the years where we were not able to celebrate our kids' birthdays (I'm not comparing that to this at all as we did have our kids with us at the time) but we still chose to have a party later, sometimes months later. Perhaps you could start planning the party to end all parties. From the looks of some of the fun events you've planned before, you have a knack for it. Once you pick a thme, you can even start looking for things on sale to use for decorations or games or treat bags and start planning for the day when you can celebrate this special event together with Ade.
I know it's not the same thing as celebrating on the day but just thought the planning would help pass the time for now.
